Attentive caring staff. Good meals, good PT department, and management seems involved in care. Marcie is great, she took me down the street to get a haircut and a beard trim, that was above and beyond what I expected.

It has only been a couple of days so far. I’m scheduled to be here for about a month, so we’ll see if my experience and opinion gets better by then. The pictures on Google must be better rooms than the one I’m in. Mine looks like it’s straight out of the 1950s. The staff are, for the most part friendly and helpful. The PT and OT people will work you, but are also forgiving and won’t push too much. The food, in my humble opinion, is horrible (and I’m a pretty decent cook at home). I wish they’d just give me the ingredients and let me loose in the kitchen. I followed the rules to request “alternate” items for meals, but they still got it wrong and gave me “the usual”. I have yet to see a real nurse or doctor. And the ones who changed my dressing asked ME how it should be done! I don’t know. I have zero medical training (other than CPR). I will post updates if my situation changes. I just want to get strong enough so I can go back home to familiar surroundings and good food. I don’t know if I would recommend this business to anyone. However, I was told by a reputable source this was the best of the bunch that would take my insurance too. May 6, 2026 – Update Started walking more today. Finally able to see a larger portion of the facility. They have a fairly comprehensive staff, they just seem a little overwhelmed by the shear numbers of residents. Obviously that is no fault of their own. They always say things like, “I’ll be right back. Give me 5 minutes.”, and then you don’t see them for a half hour. There are exceptions though. Some of the CNAs seem to hussle more than the veteran nurses. I think if they had more young and hungry CNAs that could fill the gaps, it would at least give the impression that things are getting done. I kinda feel sorry for a lot of the staff. They do a job that I do not envy. I also know that learning people’s names and the words “please” and “thank you” go a long way. Yelling at people for things that are beyond their control never makes a situation better. I’ll post again in a week or so.

I caught a staf infection there and was told by the med-aide it was just the healing process…I ended up with a Vac machine and on antibiotics for more than 60 days and I am still suffering from this procedure

Porthaven treated my uncle very well during his stay there. The staff was attentive and helpful. The therapy team did a great job in helping him get back on his feet. I have to stay our family was pleased and thankful for the care he received there.

My grandpa was sent here after a series of bad falls that led him to have 3 broken ribs 2 spinal fractures and a punctured lung. He received bare minimum care and could almost never get anyone to answer his calls for help. He just got home today and told me he had things stolen from him he was shorted on his narcotic pain meds many times nurses coming in going through his things and that he witnessed a male nurse giving a female nurse pills in the middle of the night when no one was around. I’ve worked in healthcare myself. I wish he knew the names of the nurses so I could call and report it but he doesn’t remember their names unfortunately. The fact that these nurses are able to get away with these things is absolutely wrong.

These claims are not accurate and do not reflect the standards of care at our facility. We strictly follow all state regulations, and our nurses are fully licensed, highly trained professionals. Medication management is tightly controlled and audited, and any misconduct would be immediately investigated and reported. We stand behind our team and the care we provide. I am in awe at the professionalism from all the staff members from the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, dieticians, and respiratory therapists social workers and CNAs. This facility has every professional on hand and readily accessible. My elderly frail mother got very compassionate care and everyone was very kind. My mother also had a good roommate which helped. I 100% recommend this facility to everyone.

Porthaven Post Acute is an amazing facility. The new management has really allowed the building to flourish, creating a community with excellent care and a true family like bond. My grandpa was in this facility and they took such good care of him. From the administrator down to the CNAs, everyone truly cares. The staff are always attentive and supportive.
